Best time to cycle Norway

June to early September on the Atlantic coast. July and August are warmest and most settled; late August gives you dark evenings again, quieter roads and the first autumn colour.

Month by month

October – AprilHard
Storms, ice and very short days on the exposed coast.
MayEarly
Bright and empty, cold sea air, some mountain roads still shut.
June – JulyVery good
Midnight-light evenings; the coastal road is at its busiest.
August – early SeptemberBest
Mild, clear spells between fronts, ferries running, traffic thinning.

Daylight

Effectively endless in June; still around fifteen hours in late August, when darkness returns and the sky gets colour again.

Wind

Atlantic weather crosses the coast in bands. The wind can turn within a day — check the forecast each morning rather than the week.

Roads and surfaces

Sealed throughout, with exposed bridge and causeway sections where crosswind matters more than gradient.
