Best time to cycle Panama

The Caribbean side of Panama runs on its own calendar. Its calmest, driest weeks fall in August to October, when the rest of the country is in the green season — which is exactly why the islands ride so well then.

Month by month

December – AprilGood on the Pacific
National dry season, but Bocas keeps its own rhythm and still sees showers.
May – JulyMixed
Warm and humid with frequent short rain; sea crossings can be choppy.
August – OctoberBest for this route
The Caribbean dry spell. Flat water for the ferries, quiet lanes, soft light.
NovemberWet
The wettest month on the archipelago.

Daylight

About twelve hours all year, first light near 06:00. Ferry timetables, not darkness, tend to set the shape of the day.

Wind

Light. The concern is sea state on the inter-island crossings rather than headwind on the road.

Roads and surfaces

Short paved island roads with sand and packed-earth sections near the shore.
